Father's Day

June 9, 2025
Allen

Father’s Day is almost here. My Father’s birthday is June 10th, so we celebrated everything about him in the month of June.  Dads are easy. A kiss on the cheek, a small box of golf tees or a promise to wash his car was all we needed to do to wish him happiness or to thank him for being our dad.

I’ve recently been introduced to the newest technological feature of my phone which is that it randomly brings up a photo from the past. I’m not sure why Apple feels compelled to remind me of who I was with or where I was in the past, but I was grateful the other day when a longtime colleague at BonBonerie, Allen Reed, popped up. It was a photo of him on the Saturday before Father’s Day in 2012. He is holding up a grilled hotdog in front of the bakery with a broad smile upon his face. A hand scrawled sign behind him said Free Hotdogs for Father’s Day. Allen has always been willing to help me execute random inspirations. I bet he did the same for his own family, all of which I have watched grow up since he started working here 37 years ago. They love him like we do. Other fathers here are Gary who has a son and a daughter who we’ve watched grow up right here. They are both eighteen. I have met some of Oscar’s family and seen a picture of Rick’s new daughter. Two of the newest members of our staff, Chris in the Cafe and Keith in the cookie departmental are also part of the dad’s within our ranks.

Dads don’t always get the attention they deserve. I want to let them know that we celebrate them and their love and hard work raising their families.

Happy Father’s Day Dads from all of us at BonBonerie!
